Becker was surprised by just how good Murray has become after recovering from his career-threatening hip injury. He was delighted watching Murray defeat opponents in dominant performances in Qatar. Becker said, “Simply incredible. I wouldn’t have expected him to come back that strong after his hip surgery. How he wrestles down his opponent, mostly over three sets, and also playing great tennis, as well in the final against Danill Medvedev.”

Murray defeated Lorenzo Sonego, Alexander Zverev, Alexandre Muller and Jiri Lehecka on his way to the final. He played some beautiful tennis to set up the championship decider against Medvedev. He would go on to lose that match 6-4 ,6-4. But he leaves the tournament with an improved rank and high on confidence. Becker is excited about the three-time Grand Slam winner’s prospects in future tournaments, especially Wimbledon.

Becker said, “It is incredible how he managed to come back like this, and I want to look ahead a little bit. If he keeps on playing like this and winning matches, I’m looking forward to Wimbledon. I think he might be on a good level there – on his favorite surface, which is grass.” Murray has been ever-improving this season and looks close to his best again after returning from his hip surgery four years ago. But the star is managing his injury carefully.

Murray withdrew from the Dubai Tennis Championships due to injury. The 35-year-old is protecting his body to be in the best possible condition for the Grand Slam tournaments. He also spoke about his motivations for playing at this career stage.

Murray said, “At my age and with some of the issues that I’ve got, I do have to be mindful of those things, and I can’t just keep going until something happens. I need to be a bit smarter with that. So, I’ll chat to my team and see how I feel tomorrow.”

The British star opened up about what keeps him going on the court after all that has happened with his injury. He replied, “I think it’s important to have goals and targets and, you know, some of those goals are different to maybe what they were five, 10 years ago. But I still have ambitions of winning tournaments and having deep runs in major events, winning a certain number of matches in my career. I’d like to try to get to 800 match wins, which, I think I’m like 75 away from that.”
