Can Stefanos Tsitsipas become World No. 1 at the 2022 season’s end despite not winning a single Grand Slam?

Stefanos Tsitsipas

Stefanos Tsitsipas is considered to be one of the next-gen stars of the sport. He has won 9 ATP titles and is yet to win a Grand Slam title but has managed to etch his name in the history of elites with his consistent performances. He is currently ranked World No 5 but has a higher chance to end the year with his career-best rankings of claiming the top spot.

He has already managed to reach the finals of seven different tournaments throughout the year and lost two finals in succession which were at the Astana Open and the Stockholm Open. He faced an early second-round elimination at the Vienna Open. He hasn’t faired well at the Grand Slam tournaments of the year and his best performance at the Grand Slam was at the Australian Open where he reached the semifinals for the third time.

Stef is through to the Round of 16 at the ongoing 2022 Paris Masters after beating Dan Evans in straight sets. If he manages to win the Masters1000 title in Bercy, he might see a major shift in his rankings. He will attain his career-best ranking of being the World No 2.

But for that, it also depends on the 22-time Grand Slam winner Rafael Nadal‘s performance where he needs to face elimination prior to the quarter-finals. He has also qualified for the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin. And if he manages to win the year-end championship, then he might end up being the new World No 1. With that, he will create history by becoming the No 1 player without winning a Grand Slam title.
