“Cancel culture based on political narrative” – Tennis Twitter slams local media for inciting Novak Djokovic hate as 2023 Australian Open tickets go on sale

As tickets for the 2023 Australian Open go for sale, a new controversy has erupted once again regarding the participation of former World No.1 and nine-time champ Novak Djokovic, in view of anti-vaccination rules present in the country and the deportation episode this year.
Djokovic, who had claimed that he had a medical exemption to participate in the 2022 Australian Open, was deported from Melbourne and a Supreme Court ruling even banned him for three years from coming back to the country. However, there are still conjectures that the Serb may now be allowed to return considering a sea change in the COVID-19 scenario between then and now.
In Australia, there is still a sentiment of following the rules and therefore, not allowing any leeway for Djokovic this year as well. Fans on Twitter were quick to cast their opinions under a 9News video where the broadcaster seemed to relate vox populi from a man whose wife died of cancer with the Djokovic controversy.
Some even shared a recent video of Pfizer representative Janine Small apologizing to customers of her company’s vaccine, admitting that their dose was never tested for anti-transmission and the fact that a vaccine could help contain the spread of the virus was never tested or proven.
Australian minister insists Novak Djokovic should not receive special treatment
Australian Shadow Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews recently said Djokovic should not be allowed to flout rules and compete in Melbourne next year just because he enjoys financial power or is unique for certain reasons.
Speaking to Virginia Trioli on the Mornings radio show, Andrews also said that there could be a possibility that Djokovic remains banned for three years considering he had to be deported for flouting similar vaccination rules in 2022 as well.
“It would be a slap in the face for those people in Australia who did the right thing… if all of a sudden, Novak Djokovic is allowed back into the country, simply because he is a high-ranking tennis player with many millions of dollars,” she said.
Recently, Australian Open tournament director Craig Tiley signaled a relaxation in vaccination requirements because of “a very different environment with people travelling freely around the world.”
Before the 2022 Australian Open, Tiley had come forward to say how things were unfair for Djokovic considering his medical information was private and confidential.
However, now, with the COVID-19 world scenario totally different, Tiley thinks the Serb won’t have to go through the same situation.
