Lorenzo Musetti, one of the upcoming talents from Italy, made a major breakthrough in his career by winning his first ever ATP tournament at the Hamburg Open 2022 defeating top-seed Carlos Alcaraz 6-4, 6-7(8), 6-4 in an intense and exciting match. He booked his place in his maiden final by defeating Francisco Cerundolo in the semi-finals. With the win, he paved his way for a career-best rank making it to the Top 40 of the ATP rankings. He is super-pumped with his win and is looking forward to the hard-court season.

But his win was short-lived when he lost at the Croatia Open to Marco Cecchinato in the Round of 16 in straight sets. As a junior, Musetti was ranked as high as world No. 1, reaching the final of the boys’ singles at the 2018 US Open, and later went on to win the boys’ title at the 2019 Australian Open. He has won two titles on the ITF World Tennis Tour and two ATP Challenger titles.

Recently in an interview, Musetti revealed his belief system and how one needs to create their own way to make their presence felt. He spoke “In life, everyone has his own themes and his own path. Learning from mistakes and forging himself as a man first and then as a tennis player. Last year was decisive in this regard. It was a difficult period, a set of things that crossed between work and private life, which caused a season with many ups and downs.

Upon asking about his compatriots and how he sees the future of tennis in Italy, he was happy about the achievements his fellow countrymen have been able to make, making the roadway for many more Italian players. He further spoke, “I am always happy when they win and I have to thank them for having achieved success before me, allowing me to work quietly in a shadow. Our example is doing well in all Italian tennis: Zeppieri and Agamenone in the semifinals at Umag, Cobolli, Passaro, and Nardi. Our movement is experiencing a very positive and happy moment.

He is a huge fan of the Swiss maestro Roger Federer who has been missing in action for quite a time and is likely to make his return at the Laver Cup with his star-studded team Europe. The young Italian has a desire to appoint him as the coach but also could not deny the fact that he cannot afford him right now. He added, “Well, I don’t think I can afford his salary!
