The world No.1, Carlos Alcaraz recently shared his thoughts on shot selection and maintaining an aggressive playing style while staying solid and disciplined. In the upcoming round at the Miami Open, the defending champion will face Tommy Paul after securing a 6-0, 7-6 (7-5) victory over Dusan Lajovic. Alcaraz, who boasts an impressive record of 16 wins out of 17 matches this year, has not lost a set in his previous two tournaments.

To retain his position at the top of the rankings, he must emerge victorious in the competition. During a recent interview, when asked about his shot selection, Alcaraz explained that he feels comfortable playing both aggressive and solid games. The Spaniard is already having the best time of his career, winning two out of the three finals he played this season.

Speaking about his shot selection, Alcaraz said, “Yeah, well, I feel really comfortable to playing both games. When, let’s say, my game or I miss a lot being aggressive, I change my game to try to play more solid. I feel really comfortable movement. I consider myself a really fast player. I try to take advantage of that, you know, to be young, to be fast, try to be solid sometimes. That’s what I consider myself, like, really tough player ’cause I mix both games. Yeah, year by year when I’m growing up, I feel more solid in certain moments.”

Tommy Paul vs Carlos Alcaraz in Miami Open

Carlos Alcaraz, the defending champion, is scheduled to play against Tommy Paul, the 19th-ranked player in the world, in the fourth round of the 2023 Miami Open on Tuesday. Despite Paul leading the head-to-head record 1-0, having won their previous encounter in three sets at the 2022 Canadian Open, Alcaraz is expected to continue his title defense due to his recent form.

The top seed spoke about his upcoming match and said, “I hope to play at this level on Tuesday. But, yeah, great, great match ahead. I lost the first and only match that I played against Tommy. I know that he’s a really talented and really tough player, so I have to play at my best. I enjoy watching him, as I said before. He is really talented player. He makes everything easy. And, yeah, I like to watch these kind of players.”

He finally ended by saying, “I like to play these kind of matches. I like to play battles, tough battles. So it’s going to be a really tough one, and, of course, I’m going to enjoy.” Although Paul had the better of Alcaraz in their previous meeting, it seems very unlikely that the Spaniard will lose. Overall, it will be an exciting match for the fans to watch.
