World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz remains in pursuit of winning his second title in Miami. Playing as the top seed at the 2024 Miami Masters, the Spaniard defeated Lorenzo Musetti 6-3, 6-3 to reach the quarterfinals. Following the match, he had a funny moment that left everyone in awe of the 20-year-old.
Alcaraz is in contention to achieve the Sunshine Double this season, having successfully defended his Indian Wells title. While he has won the two events in different years, doing it in the same season has been a rare feat. However, given Alcaraz‘s current form, no one can deny his chance of achieving it.
He has yet to drop a set in the three matches he has played in Miami so far. The former US Open winner is now on a 9-match winning streak wherein he has dropped a set just twice. With his confidence on the rise, he is a heavy favorite for the title this year.
Despite Daniil Medvedev, the defending champion, and Jannik Sinner, last year’s runner-up, still fighting in the tournament, Alcaraz has increased his odds of winning the title. Amid all of this, he still had to struggle on the court, but for him, the moment came after he won the match.
As the winning player is asked to sign on the camera, the Spaniard is also asked to do the same. He, however, struggled with the grammar part of framing the phrase. As he is not a native English speaker, he took a long moment to think about it but still got it wrong.
Fans left in awe of Carlos Alcaraz despite his mistake
Alcaraz has been making considerable improvements in learning English since the time he first came on the Tour. He had struggled and subsequently trolled for his language despite defeating Novak Djokovic in the 2023 Wimbledon finals.
As the video of his attempt went viral, it received a lot of reactions. While some tried to troll him for not knowing the language, many others defended him for his effort.
Sharing a wide spectrum of reactions, here’s what fans have to say:
The World No. 2 will now take on Grigor Dimitrov in a blockbuster clash for a place in the semis. The Bulgarian defeated Hubert Hurkacz in a controversial match, receiving flak for his inaction. Alcaraz currently leads their head-to-head 3-1.
