“Don’t know what’s wrong with him,” Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner brutally compared by Italian ATP legend as the young Spaniard has disappointedly “gone a step back”

Italian ATP legend Adriano Panatta recently compared Carlos Alcaraz to Jannik Sinner, as his compatriot seems to be unwavering in his determination. Sinner has just defeated Australian Open legend Novak Djokovic in the semi-final, becoming the first person to do so in the tournament history since 2018. This has placed the young Italian on a pedestal, subjecting his contemporaries to unapologetic comparison.
Former World No.4 and French Open champ Adriano Pannata had quite a few words to talk about Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner. The Italian pressed on the point that Alcaraz was on a decline, both on the physical and mental fronts. The Spaniard went from being the defending champion at the US Open to struggling to win any titles in less than 6 months.
Alcaraz hasn't evolved, but he's gone a step back. He has a rather bizarre attitude on the court. I don't see him as determined as he was two years ago. He laughs, he jokes, he doesn't seem to care. I don't know what's wrong with him but, in my opinion, he has yet to decide what kind of player he is.Panatta via podcast La Telefonata (H/T: tennisworldusa)
The Italian also hypothesized that Alcaraz was not serious about the sport anymore and that he “doesn’t seem to care”. Panatta also had good things to say about Jannik Sinner.
Sinner is another category and is of the same cloth as Djokovic.
Panatta seemed to be sure that while Sinner still had his head in the game, Alcaraz had lost his focus a while back. Nevertheless, it looks like a shift in generation on the ATP tour as the older players are retiring and younger ones like Alcaraz and Sinner are making their marks on the court.
Adriano Panatta calls Jannik Sinner the new champion
The veteran former Italian tennis pro Panatta could not have enough praise for his compatriot Jannik Sinner. With his experience and level of play, Panatta is definitely qualified enough to talk about the current game of the younger players.
Sinner is the new Panatta? I don't think, Jannik Sinner is that because it's been 50 years since I played. But we have found a new champion. He will have a great future, he will definitely be a champion.Panatta
The 1976 French Open winner further continued:
He is an extraordinary boy, very strong from a technical and mental point of view, but he is not yet like Medvedev and Djokovic.
Panatta also mentioned that the 22-year-old is capable of playing on any surface, an attribute to the change in various aspects of his game. Sinner is now set to play Daniil Medvedev in the final of the Australian Open on Sunday. The fans and audiences will have to wait to see if Sinner will be able to clock a maiden Grand Slam title.
