The US Open semifinals between Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev glued all the viewers to their seats. The Russian Medvedev played his best tennis and kept the youngster puzzled throughout the match. Daniil beat the Spaniard in 4 sets to move on to the finals against none other than tennis great Novak Djokovic.

“These kind of matches can happen. Even if I feel I’m a more mature, different player. He played really really great. A great game. I couldn’t find solutions. I thought right now I’m a better player to find solutions when the match isn’t going the right direction,” said Carlos Alcaraz in the post-match interview, when he was asked to talk about how maturity will help him with the loss.

Alcaraz’s game chiefly revolved around his aggressive style of play, and he couldn’t answer Medvedev’s creativity on the returns and his huge serves. The Russian’s tactical game proved crucial, and his experience gave him the edge. Carlos concluded by saying that, ” I am not mature enough to handle these kinds of matches”.

After a commendable performance by Medvedev, he now advances to the grand stage, where he has to play better than the best to beat Novak Djokovic. The last time the two met in 2021, Medvedev did the unthinkable by beating Djokovic in three consecutive sets and winning his first Grand Slam. Then Djokovic was left as numb as Alcaraz today as Daniil showcased his dominance on the grandest stage of all.

“To beat him, I have to be 10 times better than that day,” said Daniil Medvedev in the post-match interview. The fans are awaiting the rematch between the top-ranked contestants, and the winner will create history and be at the top of their ranking. Djokovic is all set to take back his No. 1 position after the tournament, but his time will be short-lived if Medvedev manages to beat him in the finals.

The Russian is hungry to win his second Grand Slam and knows the work he needs to put in to beat the “wall” like Djokovic. The future of men’s tennis is bright, and it is exciting to see two young players like Alcaraz and Medvedev challenging the established order. These are the players who will be leading the sport for many years to come.
