Carlos Alcaraz found himself in a spot when Jim Courier questioned him about the WTA after the Spaniard’s fourth-round win over Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanovic at the Australian Open. The Spaniard eased past the unseeded player with a score of 6-4, 6-4, 6-0.
After the win, Courier asked Alcaraz who he liked to watch on television. The 20-year-old revealed he watches the matches of Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev, and Jannik Sinner.
But I love watching Daniil play, for example, Novak, and Sinner as well. I mean those guys I like to watch because every time that they step on the court they set up their best level. As a huge fan of tennis, I like to watch pretty good tennis high-level tennis. So those players are the best players in the world. I really like to watch it.Alcaraz said in his post-match interview
However, interestingly enough, Alcaraz did not take any WTA players’ names. Courier’s next question to Alcaraz was whether he watches WTA matches as well. Amid spectators’ loud chuckles at the Rod Laver Arena, Alcaraz awkwardly said that he watches WTA matches whenever he can.
Well, yes. I watch WTA as well. I mean, when I can, obviously. I mean when I turn the TV on, if it's WTA, ATP, whatever, I like to watch.Alcaraz added
Fans on social media are guessing that Alcaraz doesn’t usually watch WTA matches, so his response to Courier invited mixed reactions from the netizens. Some said Alcaraz, like many others, doesn’t watch women’s tennis, while others commented that Alcaraz should have taken some big WTA players’ names.

Carlos Alcaraz storms into the quarter-final at the Australian Open for the first time
After an easy win over Miomir Kexmanovic, Carlos Alcaraz stormed into the quarterfinals of the Australian Open to play against Germany’s Alexander Zverev on Wednesday (January 24). Notably, the Spaniard reached the quarter-final stage in Melbourne for the first time.
This victory helped him reach the quarter-final stage of every Grand Slam event. Last year, he failed to play at the Australian Open due to injury. But he had a great 2023 when he won six titles, including his second Grand Slam title at Wimbledon, by beating Novak Djokovic in the final.
If Alcaraz lifts his maiden Australian Open title, he will become the only player in the Open Era to win three Grand Slam titles before turning 21. Before him, Björn Borg and Mats Wilander achieved the feat.
