Spaniard prodigy Carlos Alcaraz has been the breakthrough performer of the year as he became the youngest year-end World No 1. It has been an amazing 2022 season for him as he went on to win his maiden Grand Slam title at the US Open and also won four ATP singles titles. Alberto Lledo, the fitness coach of the 19-year-old, talked in detail about his recovery from his injury ahead of the start of the 2023 season.
Alcaraz had an abrupt ending to his 2022 campaign as he had to withdraw his name from the Year-end Championship following an abdominal injury that kept him out for some weeks. His most remarkable performances have been at the Madrid Open, where he defeated the Top 3 to win his sixth ATP title.
Lledo went on to claim that Carlos Alcaraz would be physically fit to be able to play at Down Under in 2023 since he is the top-seed player of the tournament. The fitness coach further revealed that the young Spaniard’s physical transformation last year was quite fantastic and such drastic change would not happen again. He admitted that the 1-time Grand Slam champion follows his diet and fitness routine diligently to be in the best shape.
“The last tests were done on Thursday and everything is going well. Until mid-December, we will do strength, cardiovascular, and injury prevention work with eccentric exercises and then strength and power. After the Abu Dhabi exhibition, the leading role will be tennis and explosiveness. The physical change will not be like a year and a half ago when he went from boy to man. He likes to know his percentage of fat and muscle mass,” said Alberto Lledo during an interview with a leading sports agency.
Carlos Alcaraz became the highest-paid tennis player of 2022
Despite not playing in Turin, Carlos Alcaraz maintained his top spot and ended the year on the perfect note. He is the only player out of the Big 4 to end the year as the No 1 player since Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Andy Murray have been dominating that feat since 2004.
The Spaniard earned a whopping $10,102,330 this year through his participation and winning numerous tournaments this season. He won the Miami Open and Madrid Open, both ATP 1000 tournaments. He also won two ATP 500 tournaments- Rio Open and the Barcelona Open. But the biggest prize money earnings came from the US Open which added £2.1 million ($2.6 million) to his kitty.
It was such a coincidence that Alcaraz crossed the $10 million mark with his earnings of the year. With this, he managed to surpass the 21-time Grand Slam champion who stands second on the list with earnings of $9,934,582. 2022 has been a great year for Carlos Alcaraz and looks forward to starting the upcoming season campaign on a strong note.
