World No. 17 Caroline Garcia defeated teenage sensation Coco Gauff to secure a place in the US Open semifinal for the first time. She won in straight sets beating Gauff, 6-3, 6-4. Garcia will now face Tunisian star Ons Jabeur in the final 4 rounds at the last grand slam of the year.
After her quarterfinal win, Caroline Garcia contemplated her form this season. She said, “Now, yeah, it’s a new year, trying to learn from every challenge. I think I grow up a lot with all the challenges on and off court. Off court, it’s very important to manage all of it. I’m just trying to focus on my game.” Although, Garcia is being slammed by fans for not mentioning Coco Gauff in her post-match interview.

Fans were a little disappointed when Caroline Garcia failed to mention Coco Gauff‘s incredible run at the US Open. The 2022 Cincinnati Masters winner is now on a 13-match win streak and will definitely have a challenge when she plays Jabeur in the semis. In the post-match interview, Garcia said, “Every point, every game was really tough. The atmosphere was really American with a lot of energy out there. I’m just very happy with the performance today, to manage the emotion in my game.”
Coco Gauff had an incredible run at her home tournament where she defeated top players like Madison Keys and Elena Ruse among others. In addition to Garcia’s appreciation for the crowd, fans on social media expected a little more admiration for Gauff.
Garcia also spoke about her next opponent Jabeur. She said, “We played semifinal I think in Roland Garros in junior. Other tournament as well in juniors. It was really a challenge for me to play her in junior. She was a rare kind of style. Yeah, a few times she stopped me on my way to get a slam in juniors. It’s a great challenge for my game, for me. I’m really looking forward to it. Try to do the best I can.”
