Casper Ruud recently applauded Rafael Nadal for his incredible record at the French Open. The Norwegian ended as the runner-up to Rafael Nadal at the 2022 French Open, after being defeated in straight sets in the final. Casper Ruud reflected on the 2020 French Open final, where Rafael Nadal completely outplayed Novak Djokovic in straight sets.
Coming into the finals, Novak Djokovic was the favorite to win the title given that the conditions were in his favor. However, as things panned out, it proved to be too easy for Rafael Nadal to claim his 12th French Open title. The Spaniard won in straight sets, and also handed the Serbian a bagel in the first set.
“The 2020 final was also sensational if you ask me, he destroyed Novak 6-0 6-2 7-6 or 7-5 or something like that, straight sets. Then in 2021, he lost to Novak, he had foot problems I guess And then last year’s final with me obviously wasn’t very nice for me. But the match against Novak as well, in the quarterfinals, there was if you ask me a joke, I was watching it from bed and the level, it was just incredible,” said Ruud.
Casper Ruud backs Rafael Nadal to claim his 15th French Open title

Rafael Nadal has been on the sidelines over the past couple of months due to an injury he picked up at the 2023 Australian Open. However, the 36-year-old has already started his road to recovery, and is expected to return in time for the clay court season. Casper Ruud believes that Rafael Nadal is still the man to defeat in Paris later this year.
“So, I don’t know, I still feel like whether Dominic or I shouldn’t be rooting for ourselves . I think we can both say we wouldn’t be surprised if Rafa came up with a superb level once again and won for the 15th time , I wouldn’t be surprised. because he probably uses these weeks and these months while preparing exactly for, you know, Roland Garros ,” the Norwegian continued.
Rafael Nadal has entered himself in the main draw for the Monte Carlo Masters. The tournament director confirmed that the veteran was giving himself every chance to compete in first of the three clay court Masters events. Rafael Nadal will drop out of the top 10 ATP rankings on March 20 for the first time in 18 years, as his injury has forced him to miss several key tournaments. Finishing as the runner-up at the Indian Wells Masters last time around, Rafael Nadal would lose points at the end of the week which would push him out of the top 10.
