In the Monte-Carlo and Madrid Open, the World No. 4 faced an early upset in the tournaments. However, Ruud reached the semi-finals of the Rome Open but fell short of the outstanding performance of Holger Rune.

“It’s so nice to see Sascha back in SF. I remember being in the locker room watching him & Rafa thinking ‘if this goes 5 sets, we’ll be here til 2 am.’ All of a sudden it ended his year. That was unfortunate. We’re gonna give it our all,” he said.

Zverev faced Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals of the 2022 French Open. However, the German left the tennis arena in a wheelchair after damaging his ankle ligaments during the match. He later had surgery to repair the torn ligaments in his ankle.

Casper Ruud has been playing outstanding tennis at Roland Garros. The World No. 4 had a victorious triumph over Holger Rune in the quarterfinals of the major. Looking at their ATP Head2Head, both players have met six times, with Ruud leading the record by 5-1. All their meetings took place on the clay surface, with Rune defeating the Norwegian player in the semi-finals of the Rome Open this year. With the latest win, the 24-year-old now holds a winning record of 16-5 on the clay surface this season.

During the on-court interview, the World No. 4 expressed his relief at winning the match against the Danish player. He stated that Rune was probably not feeling well, which brought him free points in the first two sets.

“I’m very, very relieved. I came into this match just trying to play without pressure. But it’s not easy, obviously. You’re playing a big match and against Holger it’s never easy. He plays very aggressive. Luckily for me the first two sets he wasn’t probably feeling it too well, he was doing a lot of errors, so I sort of got a lot of points for free,” Ruud said.

Ruud will be facing the German player, Alexander Zverev in the semi-finals of the Roland Garros.
