“Certified BRAT behavior!” Nick Kyrgios gets whacked on social media for demeaning Daniil Medvedev’s No.1 ranking after beating him at the US Open
Nick Kyrgios and Daniil Medvedev
Nick Kyrgios is having one of the best seasons of his eventful tennis career. Last night, he stunned defending champion and the World No.1 Daniil Medvedev in the Round of 16 of the US Open in four sets 7-6(11),3-6,6-3,6-2 to reach his maiden quarterfinals at the US Open. He is now one of the favorites in the top half of the draw and could realistically make it to the final.
Kyrgios did well in the first half of the season but bloomed during the grass-court stint. He made back-to-back semifinals at tour level and then amazed everyone by reaching the final at Wimbledon where he lost to Novak Djokovic. He then continued his good form in the North American swing and won the Washington Open.
He has been amazing in the opening week of the US Open and will want to go seep in the second week too. During his post-match press conference, Kyrgios spoke about the rankings disparity he has despite being one of the best in the world. He said that the rankings don’t reward skill and form and rather reward consistency. He argued that he has only played 12 tournaments in the year while some players who are ahead of him have played 50. He then cheekily mentioned that his match against Medvedev was another message that the rankings don’t matter.
“I don’t think the rankings reward skill and form. It rewards consistency. I played 12 tournaments and some of the people ahead of me played 50. It’s almost impossible for me to be highly ranked. Tonight was another message that the rankings don’t matter,” he said.

Fans were pretty harsh to judge Kyrgios’ statement but rightly so, pointed out that he was being disrespectful to everyone who is ranked higher than him including Daniil Medvedev.
