Former World No. 1 Chris Evert recently praised pop star Selena Gomez for her upcoming documentary ‘My Mind and Me’. Evert has been quite active on social media, especially on her Twitter account where she praised the 30-year-old star for opening up on her mental health struggles.

The documentary chronicles Gomez’s six-year struggle with her mental health due to her fame, during which she also underwent a kidney transplant along with her battle with anxiety. With mental health issues getting more attention, pop stars opening up regarding their struggles with different mental health issues, be it chronic depression, anxiety, or even OCD, comforts others struggling with it.

“Selena Gomez documentary, My Mind and Me, is a must see. Addressing mental health issues like depression, loneliness, anxiety… We all have been there and Selena’s story is raw and sad, but also inspirational!” tweeted Evert.

Evert uses Twitter to voice her opinion on a variety of topics making rounds on the internet. Taking Gomez’s documentary to make more people realize the struggles celebrities have, Evert uses her popularity and massive following to reach out to more people. The 18-time major winner has also spoken a lot of times about equal rights for transgender athletes.

Evert had opened up on her cancer battle earlier this year. The tennis star had lost her sister and former tennis pro Jeanne to ovarian cancer. Jeanne’s death led to Chris also checking herself up, and it led to the early detection of her cancer. After going for multiple chemo sessions, Evert was declared free from cancer with a very less chance for a relapse.

Ever since Evert came out with her cancer treatment, she has been appealing to others as well to not take the disease lightly. She often posts about the need for regular health checkups and why early detection of diseases like cancer is important, as it saved her after she tragically lost her sister.

Gomez‘s documentary is currently streaming on Apple TV where subscribers can watch it. The documentary has received wide praise as the singer who has now also turned into an actor has been very candid about her battles, giving fans a sneak peek into her personal life.
