Coco Gauff has secured her place in the quarterfinal of the US Open becoming the youngest quarterfinalist there since 2009. World No. 12, Gauff defeated China’s Zhang Shuai in straight sets, 7-5, 7-5. The two players last met back in Miami this year where Gauff prevailed over Shuai.

After the match, Gauff commented, “It feels insane. Ashe Stadium chanting my name, I was trying not to smile. It was really physical, it felt like a three-setter.” The 18-year-old will now face 2022 Cincinnati Masters champion, Caroline Garcia in the quarter-final. Garcia is currently on a 10-match win streak. It’ll be interesting to see the teenage star battle a player in such great form at the US Open.

You just got to accept she’s going to hit some great shots, because I know she will.”
