Coco Gauff beat Aryna Sabalenka in the US Open 2023 final to win her first ever Grand Slam at just 19.

All the attention in the Tennis world has been on American teenager Coco Gauff ever since she defeated Aryna Sabalenka last night to win the 2023 US Open. Fans and celebrities from all over the globe have showered their love and appreciation on the 19-year-old and she is well deserving of everything. The way she won the US Open in 2023 is truly inspiring and she proved her mettle to everyone at the biggest stage of them all.
Despite being one set down, Coco Gauff defeated Aryna Sabalenka 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 in a tremendous comeback victory. She maintained her composure throughout the match and did not let her nerves get to her. In fact, her performance in the last two sets was so good that she unnerved Aryna Sabalenka and caused her to make innumerable unforced errors, which ultimately caused her to win.
After her win, the WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) honored Coco by gifting her a WWE Championship belt. The teenager posed with the belt and her US Open title for a picture and posted it on Social media with the caption: “(Trophy emoji) with the belt goes hard”.
Coco also reached a number of milestones after winning the 2023 US Open. She became the first teenager since Serena Williams to win a Women’s Singles Grand Slam title and also the first American teenager to win a Women’s Singles Grand Slam this century. Besides that, she became the tenth teenager to win the US Open.
Coco Gauff says she’s grateful for the Black Champions that came before her
After winning the US Open 2023 title, Coco Gauff has only been humble in her interviews. Talking about the Black Champions that came before her, the nineteen year old explained how grateful she was for them as they inspired her and ultimately led her to the path to glory.
“It’s an honor to be in that stat with Althea Gibson, Serena, Venus, Naomi, Sloane.. they paved the way for me to be here. I remember Sloane winning this trophy in 2017. I had lost in the final of junior US Open. It was an inspiring moment for me to see her win bc I grew up watching her & I’ve known Sloane since I was 10,” she said.
Talking about the contributions of Serena Williams and Venus Williams in particular, Coco Gauff said that words can’t describe how much they have inspired her. She hopes that she can continue their legacy and someday, another girl can get inspired by her and do the same.
