Coco Gauff was looking in great rhythm and form in the first set to win it in a tie-breaker 7-6 (10/8) against Anastasia Potapova in her second-round match of the Miami Open 2023. However, soon the tables turned and eventually the American lost the next two sets and the match 7-6 (10/8), 5-7, 2-6.
With this loss her claim to win her career’s first WTA Masters singles title in the Sunshine Doubles is over. After the match, the World No.6 analyzed and noted the shortcomings because of which she lost the match.
The Tennis Letter shared the following statement of Coco Gauff on social media following her second-round exit from the Miami Open 2023.
“Coco Gauff: “My defense should be used as a tool than as a weapon. I have to change my mentality.. I play too passive bc I know I can get to balls. The players doing well are big hitters. It’s not like I don’t have tools to hit big, I do… it’s about making it the 1st decision,” the caption read.
Meanwhile, the American sports broadcaster Tennis Channel noted how Anastasia Potapova came from behind to win the match.
“From a set and 3-5* down, Anastasia Potapova beats World No. 6 Coco Gauff 6-7(8) 7-5 6-2 at the @MiamiOpen! The 21-year-old earns her third career top-10 win and faces Qinwen Zheng next,” the caption read.
Coco Gauff will now focus on the clay swing of the season which is going to start shortly.
