With the 2023 US Open about to conclude. Coco Gauff has secured her place in the finals of the Grand Slam as she comfortably beat Karolina Muchova. The 19-year-old sensation nostalgically recalls her heartwarming interaction with the Japanese champion Naomi Osaka.
During the post-match conference, the American recalls her initial loss in her US Open debut, where she lost against the former US Open champion, Naomi Osaka. The Japanese beat Gauff in the third round of the 2019 US Open 6-3,6-0. After a humiliating loss, Coco broke down on the court and was weeping her eyes out when her opponent went up and consoled her. “It feels so long ago. I wouldn’t change anything about it” said Coco. Oska showed extreme sportsmanship by going up to her opponent, placing her arm around her, and sharing some positive and consoling words. The fans were all delighted to see a kind gesture from the defending champion and as Coco said, “It touched many people”.
Now the more evolved Gauff has created history by becoming the youngest player to be in the finals of the US Open. She has been a force to reckon with this season and is yet to prove herself in the biggest stage of the tournament.
Coco Gauff gears up for final stretch against Aryna Sabalenka
The young Gauff again wins the hearts of many people by playing her best tennis and advancing to her first US Open finals. She has grown a lot since her US Open debut. “I tried my best to handle my emotions the best I could. She was really sweet, allowing me to be a part of that,” says Coco while remembering her emotional interaction with the two-time US Open winner.
The 19-year-old American now prepares for her last run in the 2023 US Open. Gauff will face the world number 2 Aryna Sabalenka who has done remarkably well this tournament and is just fresh off a very intense match against Madison Keys. Sabalenka faced all kinds of pressure in her semi-final match which is a list of what she is going to face in the finals against Coco Gauff. Both the players will face each other on Sunday and only time will tell us what the future holds for both of them.
