The American World No. 7Coco Gauff is finally proving her worth as she lifts her maiden WTA-1000 title in her home tournament in Cincinnati. This title will eventually give her the confidence to light up the flushing meadows in less than a month in front of her home crowd yet again.
The final score in the Cincinnati Open final against the unseeded Czech Karolina Muchova was 6-3, 6-4. The American youngster was the heavy favorite for the final battle, as she looked in great touch the whole tournament.
In the final, she showed the level of a true champion in both sets. After a hard-fought first set with breaks and re-breaks, Gauff upped her level and played flawless tennis to close out the match in straight sets. Though there were three match points saved by the Czech in the eighth game of the second set on Gauff’s serve, the American didn’t hold back in finally converting the fourth match point in her next service game.
Gauff’s greatest test here was in the semi-finals against Polish World No. 1 Iga Swiatek. After losing seven straight matches against the Polish star, the American finally solved the puzzle here in Cincinnati with a 7-6 (7-2), 3-6, 6-4. Two days later, at 19 years and 160 days, Coco Gauff has now become the youngest ever to win the Cincinnati Open in the Open Era.

Coco Gauff will be one of the favorites for the US Open
By clinching her first WTA-1000 title, the American 19-year-old Coco Gauff will be leading to the US Open as one of the top favorites. Despite being a top talent and much anticipated by the tennis world, Gauff only has played a single Grand Slam final until now. It was in the French Open 2022 where she fell to the Polish World No.1 Iga Swiatek.
Gauff’s best results in the US Open are the quarter-final appearances in 2019 and 2021. She will be trying her best to better the results this year. With a lot of confidence gained from the Cincinnati Open, she will be projected much in the upcoming grand slam tournament.
Other than Gauff, the Polish star Iga Siwtaek, Aryna Sabalenka, Elena Rybakina, and Ons Jabeur will be the heavy favorites to clinch the prestigious trophy at the Flushing Meadows.
