Former world No. 1, Venus Williams is regarded as one of the greatest players to ever grace the game. She has 7 Grand Slam singles titles – five at Wimbledon and two at the US Open, and multiple Olympic gold medals to her name. In doubles, her total major tally stands at a whopping 14, all partnering with her younger sister and former tennis professional Serena Wiliams. Recently, the 42-year-old took to her official Instagram handle and shared her thoughts on multiple aspects of her tennis career and of the sport in general, through her fashion brand ElevenbyVenus. Williams believes that the sport has taught her the importance of self-reflection and honesty along with self-belief regardless of the situation.

“Complete self-honesty and self-reflection. It’s the only way to improve. And to dig in deep and run through walls. To believe in yourself, even when you can’t, or don’t. Believe anyway. Know you are the ONE,” Williams responded to a fan’s question about the biggest lessons tennis has taught her.

Elaborating further, Williams said that those aspects are crucial to improvement. She also opined that there is nothing more important than self-belief and confidence in tennis as well as in life. She answered candidly when other fans asked about what she learned from her two consecutive defeats to the same player, Timea Bacsinszky in the French Open (2016 and 2017).
