Jannik Sinner, the winner of the 2023 China Open, finally threw light on a hilarious incident that took place during the trophy distribution ceremony. The Russian Daniil Medvedev faced the Italian in an all-exciting final where neither was giving in. The final score was 7-6(2), where both players gave it their all to take both sets to the tiebreak, where Jannik edged past the World No. 3. However, what came after that was an absolutely hilarious treat for the fans.
During the trophy distribution ceremony, both players were taking pictures with their respective trophies. Before they posed, Daniil put a red doll in the winner’s trophy in Jannik’s hands, and after the pictures were taken, the Russian surprisingly took away the doll, and Jannik was seen talking to him as he was walking away.
However, recently, World No. 3 finally spoke about his hilarious behavior and confirmed that it was his doll that he had taken. “It was mine. The thing is that they gave us both a toy, and he put his straight away in his trophy, in the cup. I didn’t want to be with a toy on the pictures. So I put mine in his cup & took it back. I was actually even a little bit surprised it made such a buzz,” revealed Medvedev.
Jannik Sinner also opens up about the hilarious Toygate incident
In the recent Toygate incident, Medvedev opened up about watching all the memes made by the fans about the Toygate incident and confirmed that it was his toy that he took back. Italian youngster Jannik Sinner also confirmed that Medvedev did not take his toy away in a recent interview.
“Yeah, it is his. No, no, no. So he had the same toy as I had, but we took the picture, and he put it in because of the picture. And then, when he went away, he took it,” reveals Jannik in a recent interview.
With that being said, it’s safe to say that the incident allowed fans to create humorous memes that went viral all over the internet, adding to the entertaining nature of the situation. Both players cleared the air and shared a moment of laughter. Now both the prominent players are in the ongoing Shanghai Open, facing the Round of 64 match.
