World No.3 Daniil Medvedev congratulated Jannik Sinner for finally winning a match against him at the China Open in Beijing. The last three battles between the duo were at final matches, where Medvedev had won all the previous two matches. However, it was Sinner who had come out as the winner in Beijing.

Prior to the China Open final, Medvedev and Sinner had met on the court at the final matches at the Miami Open, a Masters 1000 event, and at Rotterdam. Ultimately, it was the Russians who won on both occasions. However, the winds were in favor of the Italian, for she defeated Daniil Medvedev in straight sets with score 7-6, 7-6, with both sets going to tiebreakers. It is fair to say that the match was an absolute thriller for the audience. However, their rivalry extends beyond these three matches. In the China Open final, both of them played against each other seven times. However, it was Medvedev who won six times. Before the China Open, the former World No.1 had a hundred percent win record against the Italian.

“I’d like to congratulate Jannik and his team for being third time lucky. Third final this year between us this year,” said Medvedev, addressing Sinner and his team. The Russian called Jannik ‘third time lucky’ following his victory at the third final match between them. However, the former US Open champion said that Sinner played an extremely good game at the final.

Medvedev also admitted that Jannik Sinner was an amazing player with an amazing season going for him. He was also hopeful that the duo would get to play matches of similar calibers in the future. “Hopefully we can have many more finals in tournaments like this and try to fight for more,” he said.

Medvedev left fumbling during the trophy ceremony as he searched for his team in the stands

Daniil Medvedev was left desperately searching for his wife and his team as he collected his runners-up trophy for the China Open. The court was adorned with flags on account of the trophy ceremony, which put his team out of sight for the Russian.

“Unfortunately, I cannot see my team,” he said as he left the podium to go looking for his team. Upon successfully spotting them in the stands, the Russian went ahead to thank his wife, and coach Gilles Cervara for their support.

The former World No.1 has been having an enjoyable couple of months. His most recent accomplishment was at the US Open, where he made it to the final match of the Grand Slam. However, he was defeated by Novak Djokovic. Apart from this feat, the Russian has also won two Masters 1000 titles at the Miami Open and the Italian Open in the 2023 season alone.
