Daniil Medvedev played his best in his whole career in the Indian Wells Open this time as he reached the final beating Frances Tiafoe. He gave a convincing performance defeating the American 7-5, 7(7)-6(4) in straight sets.
However, the challenge before him now is even greater. The World No.2 Carlos Alcaraz is going to be his opponent in the final. The Russian is aware of the prowess of the young Spaniard and the kind of brilliant form he is in. He stormed into the final beating Jannik Sinner 7(7)-6(4), 6-3.
Meanwhile, when Daniil Medvedev was asked in his post-match interaction with the journalists after his semi-final round match against Frances Tiafoe about his thoughts on Carlos Alcaraz and if he enjoys watching him play, he praised the US Open 2022 champion.
“I would say, to be honest, more enjoying his tennis. But when I say “enjoying,” even kind of surprised, because again, I feel like me, Zverev, Tsitsipas, Sinner would be tough to say, he’s younger, but who else, Andrey Rublev, we all have great skills, we all can some of us serve better, some of us are better at the net, some of us have better forehand, backhand,” he said.
The current World No.6 is also amazed by Carlos Alcaraz’s journey. In a very short period of time, he became an intrinsic member of the elite league of tennis world.
“Then Carlos, when he was there at like 17, I was, like, Wow, this guy, he’s strong, but you never know, sometimes guy hits strong and then makes a lot of unforced. Let’s see how he does. Then in one year he’s No. 1 in the world. There are matches where he doesn’t miss much, hitting just stronger than his opponents,” he continued.
“That’s like surprising or amusing to see, because, well, you’re like, If this guy is on fire, what can you do? I remember Madrid I didn’t watch the matches but when he beat Rafa and Novak back to back on clay, that’s amazing at 18 years old. So he has amazing skills. The question is, we know that he knows how to use them. Then the question comes, does he win 10 Grand Slams, 5, or 23 and maybe he beats the record,” he added further.

Daniil Medvedev is hoping for a great final
The Russian is chasing his career’s first Indian Wells Open trophy. He will also climb to World No.4 rank in the ATP singles rankings if he wins this match. However, the great challenge of Carlos Alcaraz is in front of him. But Daniil Medvedev is not worried or anxious but on the contrary he is confident and expects to give his best in the final.
“It’s going to be enjoyable to see and enjoyable to play against him. That’s why, if he’s the winner, I’m gonna be, yeah, it’s going to be great to play him, especially I’m feeling confident now. I think surface is better for him, but I’m gonna try my best to show my best tennis and hopefully have a great final,” he said.
Daniil Medvedev and Carlos Alcaraz has met each other only once before in their career. In the Round of 64 match of the Wimbledon 2021, the Russian defeated the Spaniard 6-4, 6-1, 6-2. It will be interesting this time as the two US Open champions will collide again in the final of a Masters tournament in the USA.
