After the all-Russian Dubai Open final in which Daniil Medvedev overpowered Andrey Rublev 6-2, 6-2, Medvedev takes a dig at the Greek World No.3 Stefanos Tsitsipas‘ remarks about Andrey Rublev in the past. For the uninitiated, The Greek had earlier told that Rublev doesn’t have many weapons with him to stay on top of the tennis world.

Now Medvedev gave his remarks about it by not mentioning Tsitsipas’ name, “Not long ago a player said that he (Andrey) had just a few weapons. And I was reading this, “how can you say this?”. Andrey is one of the most skillful players. Hopefully, he can beat this guy who said it many many times.”

Rublev was overpowered by the former World No.1 in the finals of the Dubai Open. Medvedev was incredibly stable throughout the match without giving any free points to his fellow Russian. Even though Rublev hit only 10 unforced errors after hitting 22 winners in the match, it was not enough to give any justice to the final score as Medvedev had the befitting reply of 27 winners and 6 unforced errors.

The Former World No.1 Daniil Medvedev is back to his best winning three consecutive titles in as many weeks starting from Rotterdam Open and Doha Open. Among the three, this Dubai Open must be the most satisfying one as he was able to stop the winning streak of Novak Djokovic in the semifinals 6-4, 6-4. With that win, Medvedev was also able to overturn his losing streak against Djokovic 0-4 after his epic win in the US Open 2021 final.

Medvedev will also move to world number 6 in the ATP rankings with this title. Eventually, Andrey Rublev will drop to number 7 in the rankings. The straight-set victory in the final also means that the Russian wins his third Dubai Open title without losing a set. Medvedev is 5-2 in the head-to-head against Rublev and 19-2 overall this year now.

An overwhelmed Medvedev said after winning in Dubai, “It was very tactical [match], I know Andrey can cause a lot of trouble to everyone on Tour. Every time we play he tries to make me suffer, and I try to make him suffer. Today I managed to be on top, but the next match could be a different story.”
