“Different players, different personalities” Nick Kyrgios extends his sympathies towards Rafael Nadal after getting a walkover in the semifinals at Wimbledon

“Different players, different personalities” Nick Kyrgios extends his sympathies towards Rafael Nadal after getting a walkover in the semifinals at Wimbledon

Nick Kyrgios and Rafael Nadal

22-time grand slam champion Rafael Nadal, who was gunning for a calendar slam this season, had his hopes crushed after he was forced to withdraw from his semifinal match at Wimbledon 2022 against Nick Kyrgios. Nadal remains 19-0 in grand slams this season but he won’t be able to win a much-awaited third Wimbledon title this year.

Nadal suffered pain in the quarterfinal match against Taylor Fritz as a result of which he had to take a medical timeout. Although Nadal was able to compete, he wasn’t at his 100% and even had a moment where he thought of retiring. He somehow completed the match and to everyone’s shock, won it.

But the next day, he found out that he had a 7mm tear in his abdomen and hence took the decision to withdraw from the match. He revealed that he tried practicing but his serve and movement were restricted and he had no chance of winning 2 more matches. Hence, he found it logical to withdraw rather than worsen his injury.

Nadal’s semifinal opponent, Nick Kyrgios took to Instagram to wish Nadal a speedy recovery. Fans laud Nick for showing sportsmanship- a trait which isn’t much associated with him.

“different players, different personalities. @rafaelnadal I hope your recovery goes well and we all hope to see you healthy soon ??? till next time….” Kyrgios wrote on Instagram.

As a result of Nadal’s withdrawal, Nick Kyrgios will play his first grand slam final at Wimbledon. Before this tournament, his best result was a quarterfinal outing at the Australian Open and Wimbledon a few years ago. He has been in amazing form all season and with his big serve, he can be very lethal on grass.

He will face either top seed Novak Djokovic or home favorite, Cameron Norrie, in the final. While either of the opponents isn’t easy, Kyrgios has beaten both of them at some point in his career and he even holds a positive H2H record against Djokovic. Whatever happens, Kyrgios will definitely create history when he steps on the centre court on Sunday.
