“Do NOT pull a Tom Brady,” Serena Williams gets trolled on social media for hinting at a possible comeback
Tom Brady and Serena Williams
Tennis icon Serena Williams retired from tennis at the 2022 US Open last week, when she lost to Ajla Tomljanovic in the third round. Serena had earlier itself announced her decision that the season’s last Grand Slam would be her goodbye tournament. She had cited age and priority changes in life as the main reasons for taking the tough call. Serena turns 41 on September 26.
Serena received a grand exit from the US Open with the USTA ensuring her farewell would be remembered for times to come. However, the American legend has time and again hinted she may come out of retirement and has teased fans with this announcement.
Recently, on ‘The Tonight Show’ with Jimmy Fallon, Serena cited Tom Brady’s example to speak about coming out of retirement. She chuckled while saying that Brady started an amazing trend. “Tom Brady started an amazing trend. That’s what I want to say,” Serena said.
“I think retirement is something that is super earned and that people work really hard for. I feel like I’m at an age where I definitely have a lot more to give and there’s a lot more that I want to do so I’m not going to be relaxing, there’s so much more for me,” she had earlier said.
Twitter doesn’t want Serena Williams to come out of retirement
Tennis fans on social media weren’t very happy with Serena’s remarks and asked her not to make a mockery of fans’ feelings. Even though retirement is hard to cope with, Serena should know she cannot come anywhere near her prime form, given the age factor. Twitter blasted her for making such irrelevant comments and asked her to respect the decision she took on her illustrious career.
