Odds were favoring Elena Rybakina before the Miami Masters final

Elena Rybakina was one win away from completing the Sunshine Double coming fresh from the title in Indian Wells. After a rocky start in the first two matches in Miami, both going to three-setters, Rybakina had been much better. She had to save a match point against Paula Badosa but since then it has been a more controlled run for the Kazakh star. She defeated Jessica Pegula in the semi-finals winning the match 7-6 (7/3), 6-4 to make her place in the finals.

But Petra Kvitova had different plans tonight. The first-serve percentage difference between the two was crucial in deciding the outcome of the final. Rybakina will definitely try to learn from this loss and especially on how to tackle the crucial points with a better first-serve percentage. Statistically, 76% was the first serve percentage of the Czech 12th seed against 54% of the Kazhak.

Petra Kvitova has reinvented herself with this title as she looks to re-enter the Top 10 having dropped out in 2021. The former World No. 2 got the better of Sorana Cirstea beating her 7-5, 6-4 to record her fourth straight-set win in five matches this week in Miami. Ekaterina Alexandrova was the only player to take a set off from the Czech girl as she has looked flawless otherwise. The final win against Rybakina was an accumulation of her wonderful show throughout the tournament.
