Elina Svitolina, the 2020 Olympics bronze medallist is on a break from the professional game and has not played a single match since she announced her pregnancy. She last played her match at the Miami Open where she lost her first-round match. Being out of action for quite a time, the Ukrainian fell out of the Top 10 rankings.

Svitolina gave an important insight into the situation in Ukraine and the recent activities by Russia that have disturbed the peace and integrity of her country with hundreds of missiles and drones being launched constantly that have disrupted the common lives of people. She shared a post on her social media account with a series of pictures that showcased the disturbing and alarming situation in Ukraine due to the war where roads have been damaged and property totally destructed.

The social media post was captioned “For the last 2 days Russia has launched more than hundreds of missiles and kamikaze drones at our Homeland. Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odesa, Lviv, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy, Kryvyi Rih, Dnipro… The enemy is pissed off because of their own weakness at the front, taking revenge on innocent civilians; people simply going to work and taking their kids to school.

Elina Svitolina also expressed her thoughts that the people of Ukraine will keep fighting against injustice until they win. She stated that “I want to emphasize the fact that no rockets, shelling, or attacks will break the Ukrainians. They can take away our houses and entire streets, but not our dignity, courage, and will for freedom. We will defend Ukraine. We will fight until we win.”

In the end, she also sought support and urged people to send in their donations for the people of the country who are having a tough time dealing with the situation. Svitolina further added, “On these very dark days, let your emotions turn into donations. Support Ukraine and donate to @u24.gov.ua“.

This is not the first time she had stood in support of her country and its people who have been suffering due to the war. Along with her foundation called the ‘Elina Svitolina Foundation‘, she has been trying to use the platform to help Ukraine’s darkest days. She has even refused to play against Russian players during the Monterrey Open as a protest against the war situation and had condemned the US Open’s decision to allow players from Russia and Belarus. She had even been the chair umpire for the charity event matches in Poland organized by Iga Swiatek to extend her support to Ukraine and its people during tough times.
