The 150th-ranked Raducanu then, won the prestigious hard court title in 2021, defeating Leylah Annie Fernandez in the final, 6-4, 6-3. Nobody had expected Emma would get through the likes of Leylah, Maria Sakkari and Belinda Bencic. Her famous victory earned her almost instant superstar status, and the 19-year-old has now talked about becoming a global name overnight as she confessed that she changed her number multiple times in the last year.

Telling the Evening Standard she needed to “get better at replying to texts”, the US Open champion was asked whether they came flooding in. “Yeah, they do,” she said. “I’ve changed my number a few times. It’s the [WhatsApp] group chats as well. You get added to a group chat, and it’s, ‘Oh, no’.”

The world No 10’s confession came after she said she liked her alone time, claiming it was a big part of her personality alongside her – at times annoying – perfectionist tendencies.
