Emma Raducanu had a poor outing in the 2022 season. It was her first-ever full season on the WTA Tour. Coming fresh from a historic Grand Slam title at the 2021 US Open as a teenager, a lot of expectations were pinned on the teenager but she failed to fulfill them due to various factors.

The hectic schedule of the Tour became an issue for her. Recurring injury concerns on various body parts were the result of it. Alongside this, a big issue for her was the constant change in her coaches. Having fired Andrew Richardson immediately after winning the US Open, she brought in the experienced Torben Beltz. But let him go as well after only 5 months into their association.

Following Beltz’s exit, she was helped by the LTA for coaching but it wasn’t fruitful either. Anett Kontaveit parted ways with Russian coach Dmitry Tursunov due to the Ukraine war making entry difficult for him in various countries. Now Emma Raducanu joined hands with him.

While it looked to be a good pairing, Raducanu let go of him as well in what appeared to be not a mutual split. With the 2023 season a fortnight away, Raducanu has now brought in Sebastian Sachs as per James Gray. Sachs is a former coach of Victoria Azarenka and Belinda Bencic. The arrangement is on a trial basis with Gray reporting a possible long-term association depending on the trial.

Emma Raducanu and Sachs will get to testing at the 2022 Mubadala World Tennis Championships. The 3-day exhibition event is scheduled in Abu Dhabi. Raducanu will be taking on World No. 2 Ons Jabeur at the event in what is the only women’s singles match at the tournament as always.

The Briton was supposed to make her debut in Mubadala last year but she tested positive for Covid-19 and had to withdraw. The World No. 75 is however fit and fine to take part this year in the event that has been graced by many greats of the sport including Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams.

For the German coach Sachs, his biggest glory moment was leading Bencic to the singles Olympics’ Gold medal at the 2022 Tokyo Olympics. With a lot of experience on the Tour, Raducanu can benefit from him, if they make a permanent deal that is.
