Emma Raducanu entered the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix with great fanfare and expectations. She is the official brand ambassador of the luxury car manufacturer Porsche. Hence, she got a wide and special reception from the tennis fans.
However, she was in the very first round of the tournament drawn against Jelena Ostapenko. Jelena Ostapenko is the 2017 French Open champion and an excellent player on the clay surface. Emma Raducanu struggled hard against the Latvian tennis professional but could not win the match.
“I had a great experience last year and played well, it’s a fun tournament and very well run,” her statement prior to her game. This was the first match on the clay surface for the British tennis professional. After a difficult hard-court swing, Emma Raducanu had hoped that the Golden Swing would bring some success for her, but she floundered in her first match itself.
It will be interesting to watch her play in the next few WTA tournaments before the start of the French Open. Emma Raducanu does not have much time before the start of the Roland Garros to find her best form. However, her fans do expect that she will have better results in the future.

Social media criticized Emma Raducanu for losing in first round of WTA Stuttgart Open
Emma Raducanu did not participate in Great Britain’s Billie Jean King Cup match against France to help herself prepare well for the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix 2023 (WTA Stuttgart Open). This resulted in a controversy as she also lost the chance to represent Great Britain in the Olympic Games 2024, as the rules suggest that one should play in international tournaments to be eligible for the Olympic Games.
However, in the very first round of the WTA Stuttgart Open, she lost to Jelena Ostapenko. The match ended in less than an hour. This was the first competitive match she played on the clay surface this season, but it was nothing less than a nightmare for the British tennis professional.
Hence, tennis fans are not taking her defeat lightly. Many are disappointed with her. Here are a few reactions that came in.
Emma Raducanu would need to pull herself up back from this abyss again. She is currently ranked as World No.68 but needs to do better than this in the next tournament. Meanwhile, Jelena Ostapenko will face Ons Jabeur in her next round fixture at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix.
