British professional tennis player Emma Raducanu is all set to start her next season at the ASB Classic in Auckland 2023, where she would be hoping for success to begin the new calendar. This will be the 20-year-old British sensation’s first tournament since October this year when she sustained a wrist injury that cut short her season and unfortunately forced her out of the court.
Emma Raducanu had a great 2021, where she won the US Open title while entering the main draw as a qualifier. In this process, she defeated Leylah Fernandez in the final and became the first singles qualifier in the Open Era to win a Grand Slam. However, in 2022, she could not perform as per expectation and at the end of the year, she fell to 75th rank from a peak of 10 achieved in July.
The ASB Classic tournament will act as a build-up for the Australian Open and Raducanu is expected to start as a favorite. The entry list for the tournament has been confirmed earlier this week and she is expected to face the likes of Coco Gauff and American tennis player Sloane Stephens who have also confirmed their participation. The former world No. 10 is already thrilled about the tournament.
“I’m really looking forward to coming to New Zealand,” she said. “I’ve heard so many good things about the tournament. It is a great way to start off the Australian Open swing. I have heard that the tournament in New Zealand is great for players and fans,” she added while talking further about the tournament.
In the short span of their career, Emma has already achieved a lot. Adding to her list of achievements, she has recently been knighted by receiving MBE from the King. “Pretty amazing day,” she wrote on her Instagram handle while receiving the honor.

Emma Raducanu will be hoping to win the Australian Open 2023 to add another major title to her name
Though Emma Raducanu has already won a Grand Slam title in the form of the US Open 2021, she will enter the Australian Open 2023 carrying a lot of expectations from her fans and viewers. To live up to these expectations, she has to be on top of the game and would have to work hard on her physical and mental strength to make up for the time lost.
As far as the injury is concerned, the update is that she has fully recovered and returned to the court. Sharing about the practice sessions on Monday evening, she wrote: “Sometimes practice right-handed too. Missed this big time.”
Australian Open 2023 will be the first tournament that fans will be expecting her to win next season. Going forward in the 2023 season, she would be focussing to regain the top-10 spot yet again and further cementing her place in the list of greats as her professional career progresses.
