After delaying her return a couple of times, Emma Raducanu is finally making her comeback to tennis at the 2024 ASB Classic. In a recent interview, the Brit shared that she feels positive and much lighter ahead of her comeback. She will be playing on the tour after almost a year, as she last played a tournament back in April, following which a series of injuries and surgeries ended her season.

When Raducanu last played in the ASB Classic in 2023, she sustained an ankle injury in the second round against Viktoria Hruncakova and had to retire mid-match. This ankle injury, along with a wrist injury that she sustained later, was what eventually ended her season, as she had to undergo surgeries for both.

Apart from injuries, Raducanu was battling a mental battle as well. Ever since winning the 2021 US Open, the Brit has been under continuous spotlight and that has supposedly multiplied the pressure on her due to the expectations of the fans and various other reasons. However, she has confirmed that she does not feel that way anymore and is ready for a fresh start.

Yeah, I feel reborn in a way. I feel fresh, I feel ready, I feel happy, I feel excited. So overall, I'm feeling very positive and lighter. I think that for two years after the US Open, I felt maybe a bit more like weight on my shoulders, but now I feel completely fresh,"

Emma Raducanu is glad that she does not have casts anymore

The youngster underwent surgery for her injuries back in May. She reiterated that she was happy not to have the casts on anymore. The fact that she could move around without anyone’s help, let alone play, is enough for her right now. Thus, there is no question of being under any sort of pressure whatsoever.

It's nice not to have three casts on you, so you know, just moving around and showering, everything, you really appreciate, just like being able to do your own hair, stuff like that. So yeah, I'm just happy to be back playing

Raducanu’s current aim is to play in the Australian Open. As she needs to be tournament-fit ahead of the Grand Slam, she chose the ASB Classic to make her comeback. The fans would definitely hope that the Brit performs well in the tournament.
