Life for Emma Raducanu on the Tour has not been great. Despite being a Grand Slam title winner at the 2021 US Open, her struggles have only increased on the Tour. Having won the Major at the age of 18, her marketability increased but her performances on the court have not backed them. The constant criticism over two seasons has led to the Briton making a shocking statement.
“Since then I’ve had a lot of setbacks, one after the other. I am resilient, and my tolerance is high, but it’s not easy. And sometimes I think to myself I wish I’d never won the US Open, I wish that didn’t happen. I was under so much pressure to perform, people had no idea what was going on and I had to have this facade, to keep everything inside. It has been really hard,” said Raducanu speaking with The Times.
The win in New York made her the first qualifier in the Open Era to win a singles Major. Her ranking jumped from 150 to 23 and she eventually broke into the Top 10. But constant injury struggles have seen her drop in rankings. She is now ranked outside the Top-100 currently occupying 130th place.
Raducanu’s biggest demon since the US Open win apart from her injuries has been stability. Stability in terms of both the team around her and consistency on the court. Injury concerns and the chopping and changing of coaches have dented her rise on the Tour. She has fired five coaches since the US Open title and is now once again without a head coach on her team.

No comeback date set for Emma Raducanu
The 2023 Australian Open saw Emma Raducanu make a second-round exit for the second consecutive season. She played only two more hardcourt events before playing the Stuttgart Open on clay. The youngster injured herself in Stuttgart post where she had to undergo surgery on her hand. The recovery will keep her out for the entire British summer including the Wimbledon.
Despite missing the Tour events, Raducanu is expected to play an exhibition match in China for which she received a lot of flak. Missing the home leg of the Tour, she will be a big miss for the British fans. She will however be looking to return during the US Open Leg of the Tour. With multiple WTA-1000 events before the 2023 US Open, Raducanu will look to once again make a deep run in the Big Apple.
