Emma Raducanu set to play Wimbledon with just 33 minutes of game time on grass after being sidelined from Eastbourne due to her injury
Emma Raducanu
Emma Raducanu stunned the world last year at the US Open by becoming the first-ever qualifier in tennis’ rich history to win a grand slam as a qualifier. Ever since her win, Raducanu became a marketing dream due to her multi-ethnic heritage and British connections.
She was projected as the next big thing in women’s tennis but so far, she has terribly failed to deliver at the highest stage. In fact, she hasn’t even reached a semifinal of a tour event after winning the US Open.
After a below-average season on grass, a lot was expected on grass from Raducanu but to her dismay, in the first round of the Nottingham Open, she felt discomfort and had to retire in the first set itself after spending only half an hour on hour.
Emma Raducanu doubtful for Eastbourne
The Brit then withdrew from the tournament next week but was expected to be fit for Wimbledon. It was also assumed that Raducanu might play at Eastbourne next week but according to the latest reports, the Brit’s side strain will keep her out of Eastbourne too. This will be a huge blow for Raducanu as she will be forced to play Wimbledon in a couple of weeks’ time with just 33 minutes of court time on the grass.
For starters, she is already struggling a lot this season and this injury has just added fuel to the fire for her. Having said that, Raducanu will be the highest-seeded British player in the singles draw and will definitely be the crowd’s favorite. She announced herself to the world at SW19 last year by reaching the second week and she will definitely fancy her chances for a longer run this time on home soil.
