The Indian Wells Open is a WTA 1000 tournament and one of the most prestigious tennis tournaments in the world after the Grand Slams. It is often known as the ‘fifth Grand Slam’. Hence, to play in this competition is a dream of every tennis player.

The British tennis fans got really excited when Indian Wells Open decided to give a wildcard entry into the main draw for Emma Raducanu in this edition of the tournament. This means that the 20-year-old would not have to play in the Qualifiers to play in the main draw of the event.

Emma Raducanu is looking to make it big in the USA again. She won her career’s maiden Grand Slam title, i.e., the US Open in 2021.

Emma Raducanu will be playing in the Indian Wells Open for the second time in her career. She reached till the second round of the competition last year before being knocked out. However, she was able to defeat Caroline Garcia in her first round match.

However, after that, it had been a difficult season for her. She struggled with both fitness and form for the rest of the season. This year too had been quite difficult for her. She had to abandon her second round match against Viktoria Kuzmova because of an injury during the ASB Classic 2023 tournament.

At the Australian Open 2023, she played well to win her first round encounter against Tamara Korpatsch 6-3, 6-2. However, her journey at the Melbourne Park ended with a defeat at the hands of Coco Gauff in the second round.

The Indian Wells Open can help her gain winning momentum for the rest of the season. However, for now social media is taking this news quite negatively. There are few social media users who are celebrating this news, however, there are also many who are disappointed with the news. Some are also even cracking jokes at Emma Raducanu’s expense. Here are a few reactions that came in.

Nice one – make the most of it!

— Veteran Athlete (@veteranathlete) February 9, 2023

Waste of WC. If she plays qualify she won't make to main draw…

— Subhashis Malla #22🐊 (@Fedals_Tear) February 9, 2023

They really shouldn’t, she does not merit it. Probably her sponsors bought it…

— tnbel (@tarjaristo) February 9, 2023

She’s going to quit during some match. Count on it

— Joe from Jersey (@Joe4Jersey) February 9, 2023

Wow, her ranking is so low she needs a WC to get into a big field like IW.

— Shirley Hartt (@ShirleyHartt) February 9, 2023

I am sure she will break the record of her countryman of getting the most wild cards 😂🤣 Utterly average player

— Big2ofTennis (@Big2oftennis) February 10, 2023

A waste….

— Speaker of the House (@InventingSy) February 10, 2023

And then out in the first round?

— nathaniel w (@nathanYYZ) February 10, 2023

A wild card? LMAO. Are you kidding. This one hit wonder needs a wild card to get in to Indian Wells? You gotta be shitting me. What a fall from grace. Unbelievable. Jesus lady – PLAY THE QUALIES. Lazy asse.

From GS winner to receiving a WC for a Masters… This story is really sad

— Santiago Abascal 🐊 (@AbascalSantiago) February 10, 2023

Emma Raducanu is No.1 female British player in the world. However, she is currently ranked as No.80 in the latest WTA rankings. She has to pick herselves up and get back to winning ways. Only this can help to save her career which is going down the barrel.
