Hubert Hurkacz had an average start to the season but he eventually found form to reach the semifinals of the Dubai Tennis Championships. He also made it to the semifinals of the Miami Open and had a good clay season where he made it to the fourth round of the French Open. He then won the Halle Open before crashing out of the first round at Wimbledon.

He also made it to the final of the Canada Masters and had a quarterfinal outing at Astana a couple of weeks ago. This week, he defeated Jack Draper in the Round of 16 in three sets 7-6(5),6-7(5),6-1.

Dominic Thiem returned from injury on clay this year but took quite some time to win his first match. He didn’t win a single match in the entire European clay swing but then finally reached the quarterfinal of the Swedish Open and the semifinals of the Swiss Open. He also made it to the quarterfinals in Kitzbuhel and just played two tournaments in the North-American swing. He then reached the final of the Rennes Challenger and made it to the semifinal of the Gijon Open last week.

This week in Antwerp, he defeated Michael Geerts in the first round and notched up a fantastic win over 6th seed Francisco Cerundolo in the second round in three sets 6-1,1-6,7-5.

Both men aren’t in the best form but Hurkacz will still start as a favorite. He has been the more consistent of the two players and has a solid game for indoor hard courts. Thiem has been slowly finding form but is still searching for that one big win. If he keeps his game clean, he may just have the weapons to trouble Hurkacz. Having said that, expect a tight match with the Pole making it to the semifinal.

Prediction: Hurkacz to win in three sets.
