Swiss players Belinda Bencic and Jil Teichmann won their individual single matches against Team Australia to lead their country to their maiden title victory at the Billie Jean King Cup. Teichmann won the firstitles,t match in the final defeating Storm Sanders 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 whereas Bencic’s defeated Ajla Tomljanovic in straight sets.
Belinda Bencic hasn’t had much success at the Grand Slams of the year but has managed to win only one WTA title which came at the Charleston Open defeating Ons Jabeur in the finals. She put up a remarkable performance to defeat the former American legend Serena Williams in the Canadian Open. The World No 12 has won six WTA titles, whereas World No 31 has won only two WTA titles in her career.
It was a monumental moment as they claimed their first BJK Cup title in Glasgow, but what caught everybody’s attention was the victory celebration by the Swiss winning pair. They went on to recreate the iconic celebration moment by Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka when they won the doubles final match in the 2008 Olympics. Federer-Wawrinka pair had defeated the former Sweden pair of Simon Aspelin and Thomas Johansson in the Gold Medal match.
The 2020 Olympic champion has been spectacular throughout the tournament where she did not drop a single set. Switzerland were the runners-up in the 2021 campaign, where they were defeated by the Russian team. They took the last year’s defeat as motivation and made their redemption this year by defeating the Aussie 2-0 as said by Belinda Bencic and Teichmann in their post-match presentation.

During the post-match interview, the winning pair of Belinda Bencic and Jil Teichmann admitted that the iconic celebration has been ingrained in the minds of young Swiss players.
