“Busy trying to make everyone forget the antics,” – Fans remind ATP of Alexander Zverev’s domestic abuse case filed in 2020 as Netflix’s Break Point prepares for release on the 2022 season
“The hero on screen is a villain off-screen”, Fans react on Netflix’s Breakpoint series with Zverev as a protagonist.
Alexander Zverev
German No.12 Alexander Zverev who has just come back from the injury is having trouble getting back into form as he lost both of his matches in the United Cup to start the season in the worst possible way. Adding to this, Zverev is getting a lot of hate comments on social media for his history of off-the-court antics as the Netflix documentary Break Point trailer is out with him as one of the protagonists.
The Twitter platform has not taken the BreakPoint trailer lightly. The tweets started to pop up as soon as the trailer got released. Many of them have asked ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) for an update about Zverev’s investigation in the rape case he was accused of. There were users mocking the ATP for not taking any actions against the German and instead got a trailer out with him as the featured player.
“The hero on screen is a villain off-screen“, some users posted on Twitter. Also here were tweets accusing ATP completely as such, “Busy trying to make everyone forget the antics“.Some of the users were also mentioning the exact number of days without a report on Zverev’s investigation. As there is a saying that a coin has two sides, some sections were also supporting him. “The ATP is not the court of law” some of the fans tweeted. There were also tweets that popped up saying that being accused doesn’t mean he is guilty.
Alexander Zverev has a lot of work to do before the Australian Open
The German World No.12 has started off the season with 2 losses. The first one was against Jiri Lehecka 4-6,2-6. This loss was not expected at all since the German was able to dispatch Novak Djokovic in an exhibition tournament 2 weeks back. The second loss of the season was against Taylor Fritz 1-6,4-6. The German himself has admitted that his game is far away after the losses.
Being one of the most consistent players in the world, Alexander Zverev reached the only Grand Slam final of his career at the US Open in 2020. He also had a good run at last year’s US Open. But Djokovic eliminated him in the Semi-finals.
After suffering the ankle injury, Alexander Zverev missed out on participating in all the tournaments for the rest of the last season. This includes both the Grand Slams – Wimbledon and the US Open.
Zverev moved into the Top-3 rankings for the first time way back in 2017. And the injury happened when he was at his career-best ranking of 2. He was on the fast track to changing his reputation of being a bad player in the best of 5 sets in the last two years. After losing to Thiem in the US Open final in 2020, He made two consecutive French Open Semi-final appearances in 2021 and 2022. 2021 was also the year when he performed his best in Wimbledon by reaching the fourth round.
The ATP Tour Final titles in 2018 and 2021 are the best examples of his remarkable talent on the court. Fans expect him to come back with an improved mentality for the rest of the season.
