Venus Williams, a 7-time Grand Slam champion and a former World No 1 in both singles and doubles categories, shook the world when she announced her decision to play in the mixed doubles category at the 2022 Wimbledon Championship last minute with Jamie Murray. She lost in the Round of 16 at the All England Club. As she is making her comeback after a gap of eleven months, she is currently unranked in the WTA singles ranking.

She is often compared to her sister Serena Williams, who is a 23-time Grand Slam champion. She even recently lashed out at a journalist expressing her disappointment at such questions after such a long career and each having their own bit of journey. Her last singles match was at the Chicago Women’s Open last year where she lost in the first round match to Hsieh Su-Wei in straight sets. She recently confirmed her entry as a wild card entrant to the Canadian Open. The Citi Open will also feature big names like Andy Murray, Nick Kyrgios, and Emma Raducanu as they will be in full action mode ahead of the US Open 2022.
