Often regarded as one of the greatest tennis players of this generation, Novak Djokovic has broken yet another record after winning his 10th Australian Open title at Melbourne Park this Sunday. The 35-year-old Serbian defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in the competition’s final to seal the 22nd Grand Slam award of his prolific career.

The Serbian tennis player made a heroic comeback to the sport after missing out on the Australian Open last year. His coach, Goran Ivanisevic, had nothing but admiration for the Serb legend. During a press conference, the Croatian tennis coach was asked about the Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadals legacy that they have cemented during their professional careers.

I said eight or nine years ago that Novak and Rafa will go over Roger. Back then they were, No. People were looking at me like strangely. But we have 22-22. Two unbelievable competitors, two unbelievable tennis players, what they did for the tennis,” Ivanisevic exclaimed. Goran Ivanisevic believed in the Serbian athlete and placed his bets years ago.

The Croatian coach also admired the prolific career Rafael Nadal has had along with his apprentice Novak. According to the coach, the two greats of the sport motivated each other in a rivalry of their own. He said, “There are a lot of guys who can beat him, also Novak. But Rafa, it’s 14 times to win a tournament. You cannot even win a tournament at home in the (indiscernible) 14 times in a row. It’s amazing. They really push each other.

Many might have expected Stefanos Tsitsipas to be more of a threat to the 22 times Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic. The two athletes faced each other at Melbourne Park for the 2023 Australian Open title.

Despite having a commendable tournament, Stefanos Tsitspas was heavily dominated by the Serb legend. Djokovic won three straight sets to seal another Australian Open title against a younger opponent.
