Former Croatian tennis player Goran Ivanisevic, who is currently popular as the coach of the 24-time Grand Slam champion, Novak Djokovic, has established a very distinguished analogy to explain the World No.1’s behaviour and mindset after a loss.
The 2001 Wimbledon champion in a press conference in Turin tried to explain Nole’s behaviour after he faces a loss by taking the example of a CEO of a company. He stated:
Novak Djokovic is like the CEO of a company, he seeks and demands profits. These benefits set it apart from all the others.
Djokovic’s coach then stated how serious and deep he feels with every loss in his career as it reflects a drop in his rankings, which Goran compared to market share in the business atmosphere. Adding further, the retired Croatian tennis player stated:
As with losses in a business, if Novak loses, he loses market share, leading to a drop in ranking. Djokovic, like any elite player, finds this too much to handle.
The reigning US Open champion has had an incredible season this year on tour. However, his one dream of leading his nation, Serbia to a Davis Cup victory was stopped this year by an impressive performance by Team Italy, led by Jannik Sinner who went on to defeat Serbia to lift the Davis Cup trophy for the first time in 47 years.
2023 has been a year to remember for Novak Djokovic
This year has been nothing short of iconic for the Serbian legend as he played in all 4 major finals this season, winning 3 out of them. The World No.1 also won the Paris Masters and a record-breaking 7th ATP Finals title in the latter stage of the 2023 season. With his US Open victory, he became the first man to win 24 Grand Slam titles as well.
In addition to all these fantastic achievements, Nole has also secured his World No.1 ranking and will end the year on the top for the 8th time in his career.
In spite of all these milestones, Novak Djokovic still feels his 2015 season was his best ever. It will be exciting to see how he maintains his rank going forward to the 2024 season.
