Novak Djokovic‘s vaccination status has been the talk of the town amongst people around the world since his participation at the US Open is still uncertain. He has already missed the ATP tournaments that led up to the US Open 2022. He is still ‘unvaccinated‘ and has even revealed that he doesn’t have any intention of getting the COVID-19 vaccination anytime soon without any circumstances. His firm on his stance at the start of the year resulted in his deportation from Australia and also his visa was termed void for the next three years.
Djokovic’s firm stance has created different opinions among the tennis fraternity where some have criticized his act as an ‘unjustified‘ and ‘irresponsible and careless attitude‘ shown from the Serbian legend while some have stood in support of the 21-time Grand Slam champion stating it was his own choice and it should not be the basis of his participation at various tournaments.

Martina Navratilova, the former Czech-American player, has time and again expressed her disagreement regarding the vaccination reluctance shown by the former World number one. Her act of denial led her to bear the brunt of constant criticism and trolling by fans of Djokovic. She got tangled in arguments and even resorted to blocking one die-hard fan of Djokovic from her social media account on Twitter. She shared a tweet on her social media account revealing the reason for blocking the fan and ending the matter as the conflict of interest has led to various verbal wars and she has the freedom to voice her opinions. Her act was supported by her some of her friends especially tennis journalists Jon Wertheim.
This is not the first time when Navratilova has freely voiced her opinion on the vaccination debate and faced criticism for being harsh toward the 2022 Wimbledon winner. During the Australian Open incident, the 18-time singles Grand Slam champion Navratilova expressed her disagreement with Djokovic’s reluctance on getting the vaccination status but was not happy with his deportation decision made by the Australian Government.
As the US Open is slated to begin on 29 August, there might be a possible glimmer of hope for the Serbian as the final draw results are awaited for Flushing Meadows after there have been some significant relaxations made by the US Government which will allow unvaccinated American citizens to enter into the country.
