Australian showman Nick Kyrgios has been very consistent this season for a change. He looks much more relaxed and focused this year and is looking for longer runs in tournaments. He started the season with a heroic display against Daniil Medvedev at the Australian Open where he pushed the No.2 seed to four sets.

He then made it to the quarterfinals of the Indian Wells Masters where he pushed Rafael Nadal to three tight sets. He also reached the Round of 16 of the Miami Masters and then and then made it to the semifinal of ATP Houston. Ahead of the grasscourt season, he declared himself the best grass-court player in the world right now and reached the semifinal last week where he lost to Andy Murray.

Given the buzz around Wimbledon due to the absence of Russian players, the draw will open up and many surprise results are expected. The two current best-ranked players in the world, Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev will miss the tournament while Rafael Nadal’s participation is doubtful.

Australian tennis legend, Todd Woodbridge weighed in all these factors and predicted Kyrgios‘ chances at SW19 this year. He said that it’ll depend on where Kyrgios lands in the draw. He said that if Kyrgios manages to be in the opposite half of Djokovic, he could realistically reach the semifinals, and if his body and the head are in right place, anything can happen.

“It’ll depend on his draw. That’s significant. We don’t want him coming up in a section that Novak might be, which is a possibility. But I think a semi is realistic this year. And if he gets to the semi and his body’s OK and the head’s still on the shoulders, anything can happen,” he said.

Woodbridge further said that Kyrgios is very focused this season and has had a good start to the grass-court season. He claimed that If there is any player in the field outside of Djokovic that can play well enough and beat everyone on grass, it’s Kyrgios. He concluded by saying that he is a legitimate force and can go deep at Wimbledon.

“Nick is actually trained and focused on this season, so this is a good start to the grass-court season. If there is any player in the field outside of Novak that can play well enough and beat everyone on grass, it’s Nick. So, it’s about, ‘How does he deal with the expectation as he goes into this one this time?’ He is a legitimate force and chance to go deep at Wimbledon,” he said.
