“He will turn back the clock” John McEnroe expects Roger Federer to bid farewell to the sport at the Basel Open this year

Roger Federer has not set foot in a professional tournament since his quarterfinals loss in the Wimbledon 2021 to the Polish superstar Hubert Hurkacz. Federer also underwent knee surgery and it was looking like with his age and injuries, it was the end of one of the greatest players to have ever picked up the racquet. But Federer has shown incredulous fights throughout his career and he was certainly not going to go down without a last victory lap.

Federer has been preparing for his comeback after the rehabilitation from his knee surgery. He has been regularly giving updates on his training from his social media accounts. He had already announced that he will make a return to the Laver Cup to team up with Rafael Nadal as they represent Team Europe.

The former world number 1, John McEnroe has extended his support towards Roger Federer and hopes that the legend would make a strong comeback at Basel Open. He also hopes that Federer would make some strong performance at the Grand Slams. Though Wimbledon was the most expected place for Federer to begin his comeback tour, it doesn’t look too likely now.

“He said he will play in Basel. I have the feeling, but I could be wrong, that he will say goodbye to his house. Unless he feels great, and then maybe he will try in Australia and then who the hell knows, he will turn back the clock. We’ll see what makes him happy.”

Everyone would like to see Federer go out with some fiery performances and John McEnroe too hopes that we could see some good tennis from the master before he finally puts down the racquet.
