With the announcement of Serena Williams‘ retirement from tennis after the 2022 US Open, tributes have kept in pouring for the former World No. 1 who won 23 single Grand Slam titles while racking up 14 majors combined in Doubles and Mixed Doubles having taken the Tour by storm.

The one record that will pinch Serena remains her Grand Slam tally as she retires with 23 majors, one less than Margaret Court, who won 24 Grand Slam titles during her illustrious career but the titles came in both Amateur and Open Era, a point that is always in debate when comparing the two champions.

Court recently accused Serena of never showing admiration towards the Australian while she always spoke highly of Serena during her career. Serena’s 23rd major came in the 2017 Australian Open and despite reaching 4 more majors since then, she failed to capture her 24th major.

With Court’s statement going viral, fans of Williams did not hold back and shared a clip of the joint interview the two legends gave at the 2016 Hopman Cup where Margaret agreed that Serena is a terrific player before Serena did her duty of showing her respect to the Australian.

“I never dreamt that I will be on this stage next to Margaret Court so it is kind of surreal. But it’s really an honour to be mentioned among such amazing champions like her and yeah, just have an opportunity to be healthy and play tennis and do something that I love is a real blessing,” said Serena.

Other fans also quickly joined in to remind the Australian while taking sly digs at her as well with the pressing common point among them being the Era in which Court achieved success as compared to Serena and the reactions certainly showed who people pick as their GOAT.
