Holger Rune’s 2023 season so far has been solid. He currently sits at World No. 6 and is set to face Christopher Eubanks in the first round of the 2023 Roland-Garros. Rune has been performing well on clay courts and has recently made it to the finals of the Italian Open.
The 2023 Italian Open was great for Holger Rune, as it gave him both the confidence and preparation he needed heading into the 2023 French Open. Rune defeated Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals. Rune also got the better of Casper Ruud, whom he faced in the semi-finals. In the 2023 Italian Open finals, Rune faced off against Daniil Medvedev but lost to the Russian.
Rune also made it to the finals of the Monte-Carlo Masters and won the BMW Open title again. Rune’s performance at the Madrid Open was not impressive, as he got knocked out in the Round of 32.

Rune’s first match in the French Open is heavily in his favor. Christopher Eubanks is rather inexperienced, having won only 16 ATP matches throughout his career. Rune has been one of the best players on clay this season, and it is predicted that he will win his first bout rather comfortably.
Rune’s potential second-round opponent could be Gael Monfils. Rune, along with Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, are the three youngsters to look out for in the tournament. Rune has been drawn in the bottom half along with the likes of Jannik Sinner, Daniil Medvedev, and Casper Ruud. Rune would very likely want to take revenge on Daniil Medvedev in the Italian Open Final.
Rune is one of only three active players to beat Novak Djokovic, who is a favorite to win the Roland Garros. Rune also has a positive head-to-head against Djokovic, who has been drawn in the top half. Rune, as a player, has caught up to Carlos Alcaraz, and their head-to-head is at 1-1. The road to the French Open final for Rune won’t be easy, but if he can perform at his very best without succumbing to the pressure, he definitely has the quality to make it.
