Holger Rune hopes to establish a rivalry with Carlos Alcaraz similar to that between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal

Carlos Alcaraz is regarded as one of the next-gen stars of the sport as he has been quite impressive with his performances throughout the season and has gathered a lot of expectations on his shoulders after he clinched his maiden Grand Slam singles title at the 2022 US Open after winning four ATP titles in the year.
Holger Rune,the young player from Denmark was supposed to face Alcaraz in the first round match at the Astana Open but withdrew from the tournament due to a knee injury. Rune revealed about his excitement level to play against Alcaraz in the future hoping to establish a long rivalry with the Spaniard that is quite similar to that between Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. Federer and Nadal had one of the biggest rivalries in the history of tennis but with time, turned out as good friends.
Rune said that “I’m excited, I hope it will be like Federer and Nadal, it could be great, that’s what we’re looking for to be the greatest players of all time and to be the best players we can be. For me, I just try to reach my potential and be as good as possible every day and improve by one percent every time I step onto the training ground.“

Carlos Alcaraz faced a shocking first match exit at the Astana Open losing to David Goffin in straight sets. It was his first loss after becoming the world number one and also was his first loss in straight sets that came in the 63rd match as he had at least won one set in every match he has played since Paris Masters in 2021.
Carlos Alcaraz broke records after becoming the first teenager in the Open era to claim the top spot in the men’s rankings and also became the youngest US Open champion after defeating Casper Ruud in the finals at Arthur Ashe stadium. He equalled the record of winning four ATP titles in a year with his compatriot Rafael Nadal.
