The World No. 7 took down a troll with a strong response after accusations were made against his mother using his social media accounts.

World No. 7 Holger Rune gave quite a surprise to tennis fans when he announced his reunion with former coach Patrick Mouratoglou. The Dane had worked for around six months with the Frenchman, from October 2022 to April 2023. 

The duo, however, parted ways shortly afterward. While initially the reason for the split was not clear, Rune’s mom, Aneke, cleared the air. She disclosed constant ego clashes between Mouratoglou and other coaches of Rune, which created a stressful environment for the player.

The former World No. 4 tried his luck with the legendary Boris Becker for a short while, but it didn’t last long. He also brought in Roger Federer‘s coach, Severin Luthi, but fired him after his 2024 Australian Open exit.

The German also left the Rune camp after finding himself unable to provide what the Dane wanted. The 20-year-old eventually found it in his interest to rehire Mouratoglou. This time it is for a longer period owing to their short yet successful stint earlier.

Fans quickly poured in with reactions to the news, with one such X (formerly Twitter) user firing shots at the Frenchman. Mouratoglou was recently fired by Simona Halep after he took responsibility for her doping scandal. 

It was later revealed that the supplement with the banned substance was provided by Mouratoglou’s Academy, causing all the problems for the Romanian. The X user told the Dane to be ‘careful with the products’ to which Rune quickly replied, revealing it is his mother who looks into this matter.

Another user then fired another shot at the family, claiming even social media is controlled by Aneke. The four-time title winner gave a strong reply to the accusation.

Holger Rune and Patrick Mouratoglou to start working immediately

Following his run to the finals at Brisbane International, Rune has found it difficult to win the matches. He is 4-3 since he finished runner-up in Brisbane. This includes his second-round exit at the Australian Open, semi-final loss in Montpellier, and second-round defeat in Rotterdam.

He will now feature at the 2024 Acapulco Open. He was a semi-finalist at the ATP-500 event last year and will be saving 180 points next week in Mexico. Following the event in Acapulco, he will play in the Sunshine Double.

At Indian Wells, he is defending 45 points owing to his second-round exit last year. In Miami, he reached a round further and will hence defend 90 points this year.
